The Department of Chemical and Environmental Engineering (CEE) at Masdar Institute (part of Khalifa University of Science and Technology) is looking for a post-doctoral researcher to work as part of a joint research project between Masdar Institute (and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). The project,  titled “Multi-functional Nanoporous Evaporator for a Combined Power and Water Desalination System”  is led by Dr. Evelyn Wang from MIT and Dr. Faisal AlMarzooqi  from Masdar Institute.

The interdisciplinary research project explores key issues related to the energy-water nexus. The focus is on technology development through modeling, fabrication and experimentation. The collaborative team aims to develop multi-functional materials and devices for a combined power production and water desalination system through advanced materials synthesis and novel fabrication techniques. The team  hopes to expand the current understanding of the fundamental physics behind the system at the micro- and macro-scale.

Candidates should have a PhD degree with a proven record of strong publications in peer reviewed journals. Potential candidates must also  have completed projects that demonstrate ability to work in topics related to device modeling, fabrication, characterization and testing in the energy and water technology area, micro/nano characterization of materials and devices, membrane fabrication, characterization and testing, custom built setups and design of experiments (DOE), modeling using COMSOL, Molecular Dynamics (MD), Density Functional Theory (DFT) and MatLab. The candidate will also need to have a good research track record in photonics and solar radiation.   

Package
The position will offer a very competitive salary package with an annual tax-exempt salary. The position will has an initial duration of 19 months starting from August/September 2017, extendable (up to 2 or 3 years) depending on the performance and additional proposals to be submitted for funding.
