Fixed-term: 12 months, extendable up to 2 years, depending on funding and performance. The assignment shall start in June 2017.
Package: The position offers a competitive tax-free salary package (US$70K – US$80K/year), full health insurance coverage, and one economy class airline ticket annually to home country.
Required qualifications: Applicants must have a PhD in chemical engineering, chemistry, or a related field. Proficiency in written and verbal communication skills are necessary to deliver presentations and prepare written reports on time.
Desired qualifications: Applicants should have a strong background in chemical engineering as the work will focus on hydrogen production from the noxious H2S using catalysts. Experience in catalyst characterization using analytical techniques such as XRD, BET surface area, pore size distribution, TGA,TPR, TPD, SEM, TEM is preferred. Experience with reaction mechanisms studies using CHEMKIN® PRO and implementing new models into COMSOL and performing and/or designing experiments is also desired. Successful applicants with strong fundamental backgrounds should have great experimental/numerical/analytical research capabilities in heat and mass transfer, chemical reaction engineering and heterogeneous catalysis.
Summary of duties: Applicants are invited for the position of Post-Doctoral Research Fellow at Masdar Institute. The Post-Doctoral Research Fellow will work on research funded through joint research project between Masdar Institute and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). The successful candidate will work at Masdar Institute and collaborate with multiple professors, research fellows and students at both Masdar Institute and MIT. This position will provide excellent multidisciplinary research opportunities in the fields of solar thermal energy storage and chemical reaction engineering. The research thrust is aimed to use the plentiful solar energy available in Abu Dhabi to convert toxic H2S (produced in large quantity in Abu Dhabi as a waste product of oil refining, and also from gas sweeting process) into valuable hydrogen (H2), with many environmental and practical advantages.
