The Office of Operations and Finance is overseen by the Vice President for Operations and Finance. The office manages all MI fiscal and operational services for student campus/housing and financial services/activities. It also oversees the following departments of Masdar Institute: Information Communications Technology, Financial Services, Business Services and Procurement, Human Resources, and Facilities.
Vice President for Office of Operations and Finance
Hamza Kazim is the Vice President for Operations and Finance. He joined Masdar Institute as Assistant Manager of Business Operations in January 2008. In January 2009 he became the Director of Operations and Facilities and was part of the focal team that handled the initiation and start-up of the Institute. Kazim later attained the position of Vice President for Operations and Finance after a record of achievements characterized by a steady progression in the establishment of the Institute.
Kazim now heads a large and varied portfolio that includes financial, human resources, procurement, computing and systems services, and facilities functions of Masdar Institute. He also manages the resources and planning improvements that enhance the Institute's ability to carry out its mission and strategic plan.
As Vice President for Operations and Finance at Masdar Institute, Kazim’s primary goal is to support the drive towards technological advancement in renewable, alternative and sustainable forms of energy, in contribution to the global effort to achieve alternative sustainable energy. His personal passion is making a meaningful contribution towards sustainable human development.
From 2011 to 2013 Kazim was involved in Masdar Institute’s efforts as the lead research representative from the UAE for the European Union-Gulf Cooperation Council (EU-GCC) Clean Energy Network. In 2014 and 2015 Kazim was also a member of the UAE Coordination Council of Higher Education, which is the highest advisory council for the Minister of Higher Education. Additionally, he is currently a member of the Masdar Institute-Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MI-MIT) Joint Committee and is vice president of the board at the Laboratory of Innovation in Bio and Renewable Energy (LIBRE FOUNDATION), and serves on many other committees and councils within the Institute.
Kazim holds a Master’s of Commerce in Accounting and Finance from Macquarie University, Sydney, Australia, and a Bachelor’s of Science in Business Administration and Accounting from UAE University. He brings with him a wealth of experience from his previous work at the Dubai Aluminum Company Limited as senior business performance analyst.
