Bio

Dr. Mamoun Medraj received his Ph.D. in Materials Engineering in 2001 from McGill University. He joined the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering at Concordia University in 2002 as an Assistant Professor and was promoted to Associate Professor in June 2006. He became a Full Professor in 2012.

He has secured excellent external research funding while at Concordia University including NSERC Discovery Grant, NSERC-CRD, NSERC-Engage, NATEQ Nouveaux Chercheurs (both operating and equipment), NATEQ Team Grant, three CRIAQ projects, CFI grant (with two other MIE profs) and AUTO21, MagNET and H2Can projects.

During these projects, he collaborated with AMTC-NRC, IMI-NRC, MTL-CANMET, GM, Air Liquide, Rolls-Royce, MDS Coatings, Alstom, PwC, AUTO21, MagNET and H2Can. He is a registered Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario and a Fellow of the Canadian Society for Mechanical Engineering.

Projects

Research Interest/Research Projects

Dr. Medraj’s areas of scientific expertise include using computational thermodynamics as a utility in materials development and processing. With a career background in materials and mechanical engineering, he has carried out experimental and theoretical studies to understand the relationship between microstructure, properties and processing of materials.

He has extensive experience in the use of diffusion couples technique for materials development. Some of the projects that he led in the recent years at Concordia University include, Development of Low Cost Magnetic Materials, Water Erosion Resistance of Compressor Blades for Power Generation Applications, Phase Relationships in Magnesium Alloys, Biodegradable Magnesium Alloys for Future Orthopedic Implants, and Laser Additive Manufacturing of Nickel Super-alloys.
