Mette Hedegaard Thomsen (MHT) obtained a Ph.D. in biochemistry/industrial microbiology in 2004 from Center for Agro-Industrial Biotechnology (University of Southern Denmark) following her Chemical Engineering M.Sc. from Aalborg University, Denmark. MHT has worked with utilization of waste products for bio-fuels and green chemicals for more than 10 years.

Following her Ph.D. she was employed with the Technical University of Denmark, Risø National Laboratory for Sustainable Energy as Post Doc. (2004-2006), Research Scientist (2006-2007), and Senior Scientist (2007-2010).

In June 2010 she joined Masdar Institute. MHT is author and co-author of more than twenty peer reviewed journal articles, three book chapters, and several conference contributions in areas related mainly to bioenergy and biomaterials production. MHT has been main supervisor on 5 master projects and co-supervisor of 3 Ph.D. students
