Dr. Robert M. Baldwin holds the degrees Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in Chemical Engineering from Iowa State University (USA). He holds the PhD degree in Chemical and Petroleum Refining Engineering from the Colorado School of Mines. Dr. Baldwin spent 30 years as a faculty member at the Colorado School of Mines (CSM) including 10 years as Head of the Chemical Engineering department. While at CSM Dr. Baldwin won several awards including the Chemical Engineering department Outstanding Faculty Award (three times), the Amoco and Burlington Northern awards for teaching and research, and the Board of Trustees Outstanding Faculty award. In 2005, Dr. Baldwin was named Emeritus Professor of Chemical Engineering by the Colorado School of Mines. He was also given the Professional Achievement in Engineering award and the Levine award for music performance from Iowa State University. Dr. Baldwin is a member of the project team that founded the Petroleum Institute in Abu Dhabi, and served as Program Director in Chemical Engineering at the PI from 2002 – August, 2007. His current position is Principal Scientist and Group Manager for Thermochemical Process R&D and Biorefinery Analysis in the National Bioenergy Center, National Renewable Energy Laboratory (USA). Dr. Baldwin is currently seconded from NREL to the Masdar Institute of Science and Technology in Abu Dhabi where he holds the position Professor of Practice in the Chemical Engineering ProgramDr. Baldwin has published over 50 papers and has mentored more than 60 post-graduate students for the MS and PhD degrees. His research interests include biofuels, catalysis, membrane separations, and alternate energy sources; he has been granted one patent for oil shale technology. Dr. Baldwin is a native of the USA.
