Dr. Mohamed Sassi obtained his BS (1985) from the University of Rochester, New York and his MS (1987) and PhD (1990) from the University of California, Berkeley - all in Mechanical Engineering with specialization in combustion and thermal sciences. Dr. Sassi has a long record of academic and industrial experience in chemical/mechanical engineering, teaching, research and service. After his studies and a post-doc position in the US, he moved to the Electric Company of France in Paris where he worked for six years in their research division on gas turbine combustion and air pollution control among other projects related to numerical modeling and optical and laser diagnostics of turbulent flames, plasma torches, electrical circuit breakers and electrical-arc-driven furnaces. These research interests have continued through his teaching and research activities in Tunisia for eight years, and lately as a Professor of Chemical Engineering at the Petroleum Institute of Abu Dhabi.
He has published more than 100 journal and conference papers and he is a reviewer for several journals in his field of specialization. So far he has advised eleven PhD theses and several Masters theses. His past experience has also included serving as Department Chairman for one term and as Vice-Director and Director of Studies for another term at the School of Engineering in Tunisia.
