Assistant Professor - Engineering Systems and Management

Dr Yousef Alhammadi is an Assistant Professor of Engineering Systems & Management at Masdar Institute of Science and Technology. Dr Yousef is currently visiting scholar at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Sloan Management School.

Dr Yousef is a member of the MIT Center for Digital Business, a research initiative that analyzes the business uses of the Internet and other digital technologies. Dr Yousef explores how advancement in information technology contributes to business performance and organizational change and the affect of the advance technology and automation on employment and economy. His research interests include using  statistical tools, such as Big Data, Data Mining and Social Networks, in decision and policy making in the renewable energy, environments, clean energy, quality control and sustainability areas.

During the period of 2009-2012,  Dr. Yousef was Survey Planning, Design and Processing Department  (previously Research and Development support), manager at Statistics Centre Abu Dhabi (SCAD). He was the Chief Methodologist for Abu Dhabi Census 2011 and Economics Surveys 2010-2011.

He headed the team to design and develop the methodology for Census. This involved developing the scope, negotiating the content of the questions, designing, developing and automating the instruments to collect the data, the frames of all the different segments of the population in Abu Dhabi, and the systems and logistics for data collection, data editing, data imputation and data transfer, and also ensuring the confidentiality of the data. Dr Yousef’s dissertation was in Neural Network Control Charts for Poisson Processes. Dr Yousef is a certified Data Miner and six-sigma black belt trained.

He is member of many of professional organizations such as American Society of Quality (ASQ), American Statistical Association (ASA), Institute of Mathematical Statistics (ISM), International Statistics Institute (ISI) and The International Association for Official Statistics (IAOS). Dr Yousef is three-time recipient of the “Sheikh Rashid Honor Award for outstanding scientific achievement”. Dr Yousef represent  the UAE and Abu Dhabi in various international conference and workshops including the United Nation Statistical Division meetings in 2011 and 2012.
