Dr. Weidong Michael Xiao is an associate professor in the Masdar Institute Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science.

In 2010, Dr. Xiao was a visiting professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), where he focused on developing graduate courses in the subjects of dynamic system & control and power electronics. His recent research interest includes power electronic topologies for photovoltaic and battery interfaces, DC distribution power systems applied to smart building and microgrids, system modeling and control for renewable power applications, maximum power point tracking for photovoltaic power systems, and PV power system reliability.

Prior to joining the Masdar Institute faculty, Dr. Xiao worked in Canada with MSR Innovations Incorporation as a R&D engineering manager focusing on the integration, research, monitoring, optimization and design of photovoltaic power systems. He was awarded the Industrial R&D Fellowship (2008-2010) and Industrial Postgraduate Scholarships (2004-2006) by the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada.

Dr. Xiao received Doctorate and Master’s degrees in Electrical Engineering from the University of British Columbia in 2007 and 2003, respectively.
