The Masdar Institute of Science and Technology is the centerpiece of the Masdar Initiative, a landmark program announced in April 2006 by the government of Abu Dhabi to establish an entirely new economic sector dedicated to alternative and sustainable energy. Masdar is a highly strategic initiative with primary objectives of helping drive the economic diversification of Abu Dhabi, maintaining and expanding its position in evolving global energy markets, and positioning it as a developer of technology. Masdar Institute will also serve the broader world economy by preparing graduates to develop sustainable products and services for future energy needs.
The Masdar Institute is a not-for-profit, independent, research driven University developed with the support, advise and cooperation of Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) focusing on advanced energy and sustainable technologies.
