The Masdar Institute building is strategically positioned at the center of Masdar City on the outskirts of Abu Dhabi - the capital of the United Arab Emirates.
It became operational at the start of the 2010 academic year and the completion of Phase 1 saw the opening of a complex structure that includes laboratories, dormitories, classrooms and faculty offices.
Designed by Foster & Partners, the Institute provides a benchmark for other buildings to follow, as a model of sustainable living and working. Covering 43,000 square meters of purpose-built research facilities and 11,000 square meters of laboratory space, the campus leverages the fullest use of innovation in energy-efficiency, sustainable practices, resource recycling, biodiversity, transportation and green building standards.
