Outreach Program

Masdar Institute's goal of searching for solutions to issues of energy, climate change and sustainability requires a citizenry that appreciates and recognizes the importance of this initiative and is also capable of actively contributing to help solve these pressing regional and global problems. A crucial factor in this ability to contribute is that Emirati university students develop a keen awareness and appreciation of environmental, energy and sustainability issues that will impact their lives.  A co-requisite is that undergraduate students must obtain the academic skills, talents and dispositions necessary in order to obtain graduate education and eventual employment in these challenging areas.

Masdar Institute also recognizes that the responsibility to educate and inform the public goes beyond the borders of the UAE. In this regard, the Outreach Program works to provide information and opportunities to international students and other interested groups.  One such activity is to host the Young Future Energy Leaders that meet annually in Abu Dhabi during the World Future Energy Summit.

Reflecting Masdar Institute’s goal of becoming a world-class educational institution to provide future leaders and critical thinkers in science and technology, an outreach program has been established whose objectives are to:

  • Enhance undergraduate university students’ interest to pursue further graduate education at Masdar Institute and careers related to renewable, alternative and sustainable forms of energy
  • Promote Masdar Institute with sister tertiary institutes
  • Engage and raise the interest of young professionals and students through an annual Young Future Energy Leaders program

1 - Summer Internships
Masdar Institute sponsors UAE undergraduate students to become interns during the summer in order for them to work on their own research project and/or assist professors.  Proposals for this prestigious opportunity will be reviewed by a panel to determine student suitability.  During this internship, students will be expected to act as full-time assistants and will be given responsibilities accordingly.

2 - Young Future Energy Leaders
The Young Future Energy Leaders is a key part of the annual World Future Energy Summit held in January each year.  The Outreach Program coordinates the event that brings together talented UAE youth to discuss and learn about the current issues and the future of energy.  International students and young professionals are also selected and invited to attend the program.
