Learning to change the world together
At Masdar Institute of Science and Technology we are embarking on an exciting and vital journey, a journey that I am convinced the whole world can benefit from.
Climate change and energy security are undoubtedly two of the most significant challenges the world faces today. These challenges require a dedicated response from the brightest and best minds, working in collaboration with industry and government to study, research and develop viable energy solutions.
As the world’s first graduate-only institute focused on advanced energy and sustainable technologies, Masdar Institute is a concerted, co-ordinated, and timely response. Developed in collaboration with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), the institute is a unique research environment specifically created to give world-class faculty and students every opportunity to thrive and develop into future leaders and critical thinkers in science and technology.
We are tackling the defining challenge of our age with a comprehensive approach to education and research that focuses on the integration of technology, policy and systems. The multidisciplinary approach, combined with the opportunity to test and deploy new technologies on an unrivalled scale, will ensure Masdar Institute becomes a source of great innovation and center of original thinking.
Each of our academic programs, developed with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), integrate education with interdisciplinary basic and applied research to promote the free flow of ideas and prepare our students to become innovators, researchers, scientists and critical thinkers, capable of solving real world problems.
We encourage open platforms for collaboration and partnerships as global challenges require global solutions. Joint research with academia, industry and other R&D partners is central to the Institute’s collaborative philosophy, ensuring all research is closely aligned to the needs of government and industry, delivering real world impact.
As Dean of Engineering, I am immensely proud of the sizeable first steps already taken by Masdar Institute. Highly qualified students from more than 45 countries worldwide are currently studying across Eight academic programs; Chemical Engineering, Computing and Information Science, Electrical Power Engineering, engineering Systems and Management, Materials Science and Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Microsystems Engineering, and Water and Environmental Engineering. They are being taught by a world-class faculty of over 60 leading academics drawn from renowned universities throughout the world.
We have also introduced a multidisciplinary PhD program, marking the next stage of our journey with a further enhanced research offering to highly motivated students and faculty who are being recruited from around the world.
