  • Masdar Institute of Science and Technology opened on September 6th, 2009
  • The 2009 intake consisted of 88 students from an initial 1,300 applications received from 22 countries 
  • 14 students had GRE Quantitative scores of 800, with an average score of 760 
  • The average TOEFL score recorded by students was 612
  • Masdar Institute announced its second year of academic operations in October 2010
  • The 2010 intake saw the selection of nearly 100 students from 1,900 applications drawn from 25 countries - an increase of 46% on the previous year.
  • We now have 170 students of 32 different nationalities aged between 20 and 37 years. Two in every five students are female; while 43% are UAE nationals.
  • 42 faculty members have been recruited from the world’s leading universities 
  • Seven two-year MSc programs are currently offered:  
  • 50% of the students’ and faculty's time is dedicated to research 
  • Over 30 research projects are currently underway, including Solar Beam Down, Innovation Ecosystems, Smart Grids, Aviation Biofuels
  • There are a number of patents already pending 
  • Research partnerships have been setup with Boeing, Honeywell UOP and the Advanced Technology Investment Company 
  • The number of students at the Institute is expected to grow to 600 over the next five years 
  • Fellowship partners include Imperial College London UK) , RWTH Aachen University (Germany), Tokyo Institute of Technology (Japan), University of Waterloo (Canada) and the University of Central Florida (USA).
