  • Masdar Institute of Science and Technology opened on September 6th, 2009
  • The 2009 intake consisted of 89 students from an initial 1152 applications received from 79 countries.
  • The 2010 intake saw the selection of 82 students from 1869 applications drawn from 87 countries - an increase of 46% on the previous year.
  • We now have 336 students of 52 different nationalities aged between 20 and 43 years. Females represent 35% of the student body; while 42% are UAE nationals.
  • The number of students at the Institute is expected to grow to 600-800 over the next five years.
  • 76 faculty members are currently employed at the Institute with PhDs from the world’s leading universities.
  • Low student to faculty ratio of approximately 5:1.
  • Eight MSc programs and one interdisciplinary PhD program are currently on offer.
  • 50% of the students’ and faculty's time is dedicated to research activities.
  • Over 300 research projects are currently underway, including Solar Beam Down, Innovation Ecosystems, Smart Grids, Aviation Biofuels, Carbon Capture and Storage, micro-grid system, Process Design Kits, etc.
  • One patent has been issued so far, while over 20 patent applications are pending and 20 invention disclosures are outstanding.
  • Research partnerships have been setup with Boeing, Honeywell UOP and the Advanced Technology Investment Company , ADCO, Siemens, Toyota Motor Corporation, GlobalFoundries, ADWEA, Emirates Wildlife, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, ParisTech, Ducab, Etihad, IRENA, Emirates Aluminum, etc.
  • Fellowship partners include Imperial College London UK), RWTH Aachen University (Germany), Tokyo Institute of Technology (Japan), University of Waterloo (Canada) and the University of Central Florida (USA), International Renewable Energy Company (IRENA), Toyota Motor Corporation, Siemens, ICT Fund, etc.
