Collaborations

The foundation of outreach to industry and government is establishment of a collaboration model that serves the core capacity building and technology innovation interests of Masdar, Masdar Institute and Abu Dhabi. The collaboration model that has been developed consists of 4 distinct stages that take relationships from the point of initial conceptualization to full implementation and realization of value from collaboration.

Although Masdar Institute has dozens of industry and government connections, a core set has been identified as strategic collaborations that will develop Institute capacity across the spectrum of industry, academia and government. This core set has been chosen based upon alignment of interests with Masdar and the potential for each to fit with the Institute’s core collaboration model.

The Office of Institute Initiatives:

  • Has overall responsibility for research contract administration and technology licensing policy at the Institute.
  • Oversees interdisciplinary research laboratories and centers
  • Plays a central role in relationships with academia, government, industry, foundations and international sponsors, with particular emphasis on large-scale collaborations
  • Is closely aligned with the Office of the Associate Dean for Research with regard to research administration. Initiatives are developed and then communicated to faculty via the Associate Dean’s office
